SHELTER originated with an invitation to Boston Book Arts from Lasell College in Newton MA, to create an exhibition of Artists Books for their Wedeman Gallery. The outcome was an international show of 80 works drawn from over 100 juried entries.
My attraction to the subject of shelter stems from a life-long involvement with the built environment. Each time I renovate another home, I realize how fortunate I am to enjoy the privilege of homemaking. Every project is also a poignant reminder of the vast segment of humanity that lives day to day without permanent housing.
In conceiving this exhibition, I hoped to call attention to the subject of homelessness and, through the sale of book works, support a housing charity chosen by the director of each participating gallery. Shelter opened at Lasell College in April of 2008 and traveled to five additional venues through May of 2009.
